Ireland Rugby Star Seán Cronin helps unveil new Food Emporium at Musgrave MarketPlace Limerick, following a €1.7 million investment

Musgrave MarketPlace, Ireland’s leading wholesale supplier to foodservice, retail and SME businesses officially unveiled a new Food Emporium at Musgrave MarketPlace, Limerick on Tuesday 11th August, following a €1.7 million upgrade.

The transformation of the Limerick branch into a state-of-the-art Food Emporium forms part of a €12.6m total investment in the Musgrave MarketPlace brand over the past four years, as it continues to redefine wholesale on the island of Ireland despite the Covid-19 pandemic.

Opening the branch’s new Food Emporium were Ireland rugby star and Limerick native Seán Cronin and Managing Director of Musgrave MarketPlace, Michael McCormack.

Commenting on the opening, Michael McCormack, Managing Director, Musgrave MarketPlace said: “The opening of our newly revamped Limerick Food Emporium marks another important milestone in our brand journey. We are investing significantly in our branches to create Food Emporiums within Musgrave MarketPlace which not only offer a first-class customer experience but also challenge the perception of the traditional cash-and-carry business.”

“Our brand essence; First for Service, First for Choice and First for Value, is at the core of everything we do, and we are focused on delivering our customers a first-class customer experience despite the challenging business environment.

The new-look MarketPlace Limerick, located on Clare Street, has been designed with the customer in mind, serving local hotels, bars, restaurants, retailers and SME’s in the Limerick region. As well as adding over 220 new products to their current range of over 10,000 products, the branch now has a dedicated alcohol area with an enhanced product selection and an extended fresh produce aisle.

In line with Musgrave MarketPlace’s sustainability strategy, the new Food Emporium is designed to save energy and reduce carbon emissions. With the introduction of low power eco refrigeration and LED lighting, the Limerick branch has reduced its CO2 output by 99,420kg per annum, which is equivalent to the annual electricity required to run 60 homes.

Michael McCormack stressed the upgrade has been a direct response to the changing needs of customers, that were not present ten years ago: “Our Food Emporium format gives our customers a greater range across all products from world foods to bespoke meat cutting in branch and crockery and equipment. Additional services available to our customers include a team of Product Specialists, a Trends Expert, dedicated chef skills masterclasses and retailer workshops.”

Other new features at Musgrave MarketPlace Limerick will include:

  • An upgraded ‘Click and Collect’ offering which allows customers to place orders online, hassle-free. Customers can park in the conveniently located Click & Collect parking spots at the store exit and, if they have paid online, have their order brought out to the car when they call the Click & Collect number. Alternatively, they can pick up some extra items in branch while their order is being brought to the till where they can then pay for all of their items together.
  • Navigating the store has been made easier than ever thanks to a colour blocking system, which aligns with a map on your trolley.
