The‘Promise’ Gluten Free Living Show returns on the 28th of September, moving to the Green Isle Hotel in Dublin and catering for a significantly increased number of visitors and exhibitors.
The ‘Promise’ Gluten Free Living Show is a one-stop shop for everyone suffering from coeliac disease or living a gluten free lifestyle, with dozens of exhibitors showcasing hundreds of products. The show features cooking demos, a kids’ academy, and lots of talks and practical advice for anyone living gluten free.
Gill Brennan, chief executive of the Coeliac Society of Ireland, said: “There are over 7,500 undiagnosed children with coeliac disease in Ireland, as well as thousands of adults who are unknowingly and unnecessarily suffering from this lifelong and incurable autoimmune disease. This is a disease that can cause infertility, depression have many other deleterious effects on people’s lives.
“This is why the ‘Promise’ Gluten Free Living Show is so important – we need to raise awareness of a disease that is becoming more prevalent in Irish society. The show provides a platform for our members - and those who suspect they may be gluten intolerant - to share experiences, meet the experts and, just as importantly, sample the wide variety of tasty gluten free products that are available today in a family friendly environment.”
There are an estimated 47,500 coeliac disease sufferers in Ireland with many still undiagnosed. It can take up to ten years to receive an official diagnosis as symptoms can be wide-ranging and are often confused for other conditions. Symptoms can be debilitating and include stomach pains, constipation, weight loss and migraine, however the longer-term issues associated with untreated coeliac disease are more serious. These include anaemia, osteoporosis and fertility issues and the only treatment is a strict gluten free diet.
Gill Brennan said: “There is a worrying shortfall in Ireland in terms of early diagnosis and subsequent access to supports for people suffering with Coeliac Disease. The Promise Gluten Free Living Show will provide visitors with the opportunity to talk to leading medical professionals, the chance to visit the Dietetic Speed Clinic and allow them to meet the many other experts who are at hand to offer guidance. So, whether you are a current sufferer or suspect that you might be gluten intolerant the show will be of benefit to you.”
