Posted on: 15 Mar 2022

Flogas has increased its commitment to golf in Ireland by becoming the title sponsor of the Irish Women’s and Girls’ Amateur Open and the Irish Mixed Foursomes. The two-year deal means that the Louth-based company will now sponsor both events alongside the Flogas Irish Men’s Amateur Open in 2022 and 2023.

Golf Ireland CEO Mark Kennelly and John Rooney, managing director of Flogas Ireland were joined by Co. Louth’s Emily Murray, Dundalk’s Eoin Murphy and Geraldine Meegan from Co. Louth’s Flogas Irish Mixed Foursomes team for the launch at County Louth Golf Club.

The Baltray venue will host the Flogas Irish Women’s and Girls’ Amateur Open from 6-8 May. The Island GC in Dublin will welcome the Flogas Irish Men’s Amateur Open for the first time between 12-15 May. The 2022 Flogas Irish Mixed Foursomes champions will be crowned at Athlone GC between 29 September and 2 October.

Speaking at the launch, Golf Ireland CEO Mark Kennelly said; “We are delighted that Flogas have extended their commitment to Irish amateur golf by becoming the title sponsor of the Irish Women’s and Girls’ Amateur Open, along with the Irish Mixed Foursomes.

“This two-year deal extends their support of golf in Ireland, and we look forward to seeing the best elite male and female golfers compete for their respective Irish Amateur Opens at Co. Louth and The Island in May.

“Inter-club competitions get to the heartbeat of golf in Ireland, and we are excited that Flogas have also added their support to the Irish Mixed Foursomes, the only event on the inter-club calendar where men and women compete together”, Kennelly concluded.

John Rooney, managing director, Flogas Ireland, said; “To mark International Women’s Day, we’re delighted to be the first-ever sponsor of the Women’s and Girls’ Irish Open under Golf Ireland. Leona Maguire won the original tournaments as a teen, showcasing the standard of play that this competition attracts.

As a company that is committed to a culture of inclusion and diversity at every level of our business, we want to reflect that ethos in our sponsorships wherever possible. The Irish Mixed Foursomes now completes our triple sponsorship roster of top Irish amateur golf competitions,” Rooney continued.
