In the Clear – Keelings Remove Black Plastic Across Product Range

Posted on: 20 Aug 2019

We are all aware of the impact of packaging on the environment and the drive towards a more sustainable approach to packaging. Increasingly, Irish consumers purchase products that come in recyclable packaging when doing their weekly shop, as 80% worry about the effect their grocery shopping has on the environment. Recycling turns waste material into new useful products, which saves energy and helps control pollution.

Keelings have offically removed black plastic, which is not currently recyclable in Ireland, from its entire product range. The family-business is committed to making continuous sustainability improvements across all of its its packaging.

Speaking about black plastic, David Keeling, Managing Director of Keelings said:

“As a family-business, we are conscious we make the right decision when it comes to packaging our berries. Electronic scanners in recycling plants have a hard time seeing black plastic, so it can be missed and end up in landfill, and so we have removed all black plastic from our product range. This solution is an important step in the right direction, and is part of a wider packaging sustainability strategy that benefits both our environment, and our customers. At Keelings, we are aware of the need to take action and we are dedicated to making continuous improvements to our packaging”.

All plastic punnets within the Keelings range are 100% recyclable and are available across Irish food retailers nationwide.
