Posted on: 24 Jan 2022

“West Cork absolutely buzzing” as neighbouring towns celebrate unique double EuroMillions win!

The National Lottery have confirmed the winning selling locations of the three winning tickets in Friday night’s special EuroMillions Raffle draw which are worth €1 million each.

The EuroMillions Raffle draw guaranteed that 100 EuroMillions players across all nine participating countries would each win one of the €1 million raffle prizes.

The Galway player purchased their Normal Play ticket at the Spar store in Ballybrit on the outskirts of Galway on Thursday 20th January. The Spar store which is owned by Gerard Geraghty and managed by his brother John, is no stranger to big EuroMillions wins having sold a similar EuroMillions Raffle prize of €1 million in July 2018.

Similarly, two separate retailers in Clonakilty and Dunmanway are also celebrating after they were informed that they also sold two of the winning tickets worth €1 million each in Friday night’s EuroMillions Raffle draw.

The two winning retailers which are based just 20km’s apart are: Minihane’s Gala store on Pearse Street in Clonakilty town and Healy’s SuperValu store in Dunmanway in Co. Cork.

Samantha Minihane only took over the running of Minihane’s Gala store last September and she has spoken of her joy at seeing one of her customers win the €1 million life-changing prize, “West Cork has been absolutely buzzing over the past few days as word of the two big wins in Clonakilty and Dunmanway came through. It’s incredible craic down here now and this announcement will give us a great boost in the town and in the area. We have very loyal customers in the store here in Clonakilty so we’re absolutely delighted for whoever it may be,” she said.

In neighbouring Dunmanway town, Andrew Healy who has run Healy’s SuperValu with his wife, Martina for the past 17 years welcomed the EuroMillions wins as a big boost to Dunmanway town and to West Cork itself. He said, “When you think about how many EuroMillions players there are throughout Europe, and we get two people in West Cork out of the lucky 100 players to collect this prize. It’s absolutely incredible! Since the draw on Friday night, we’ve had people calling the store asking if we sold the winning ticket. I had no idea that we were the winning retailers at the time so there’s going to be a lot of excitement and tongues wagging in the town for a while after this win. We’re overjoyed with the thoughts that one of our customers is one million euro richer and we wish them every success with the win,” he said.
