LUCY KENNEDY AND DANONE IRELAND LAUNCHES BRAND-NEW YOGURT RANGE FOCUSED ON HEALTH, SIMPLICITY AND SUSTAINABILITY

Posted on: 02 Jun 2020

Busy mum and TV and Radio Presenter Lucy Kennedy today launches Danone Dairy Ireland’s new yogurt range, called simply; Danone. The range has been created to better support families looking to improve their eating habits and the planet with simple, recognisable ingredients, like milk, live yogurt cultures and fruit and veg combinations, with no added sugar or replacement sweeteners, in 100% recyclable pots, a first for Danone in the yogurt category.

The introduction brings the Danone company name to a product range for the first time in Ireland and comes off the back of new Danone Ireland research which reveals that the health and nutritional value of products is the most important factor to Irish families when filling their fridge. Despite price being an important factor, over eight in ten Irish families say it would never lead to compromises on the nutritional value of the products they buy. Health considerations have never been more important and six in ten parents now actively look for products with no added sugar/sweeteners, however taste will always lead the way when shopping.

Today, many parents like Lucy are busier than ever before, managing everything that comes with the unique situation of everyone being at home. With three young children, building healthy sustainable eating habits as a family whilst supporting their happiness and development is something that is top of mind for her. Danone believes inSimply What Matters, promising to deliver simple delicious yogurt for all the family whilst making sustainable eating habits a part of everyday life so parents can focus on what matters most to them, their family’s wellbeing. With a simple ingredients list including; milk and live cultures with fruit and veg combinations, there are no ingredients on the back of pack that parents won’t recognise, plus no added sugar or sweeteners and presented in 100% recyclable pots, the new Danone yogurt range makes healthy eating habits deliciously simple and desirable food for the whole family.

When it comes to their food choices, people are also increasingly eco-conscious and taking active steps to reduce their individual environmental impact. 64% of parents surveyed readily admit they intentionally try to buy brands that are recyclable and environmentally friendly for their family.  The new Danone yogurt range caters to the growing calls from Irish shoppers for food brands to create simple, sustainable, great tasting products that reflect their broader personal, health and family values. The new range uses 100% recyclable pots, with 30% recycled content, and the product wraps use recycled cardboard.

Speaking at the launch, Lucy Kennedy said: “Now more than at any other time, as a mum I want to focus on what matters to my family and get the most from this unique time together. Nutrition has always been important but I think all parents have experienced the challenges of trying to feed fussy kids, accommodate different preferences and encourage them to learn healthy habits from a young age – I know I’ve certainly found it tricky at times. For me it is all about balance I want to give my kids products that are nutritious and taste good! The new Danone range keeps it simple, with easily recognisable ingredients, so I know exactly what I’m feeding them and can focus my attention elsewhere.  In addition, the fact that the range comes in 100% recyclable pots making recycling straight forward is a real but important bonus”.

Irish people are suffering a sense of food label fatigue with almost a third finding nutritional labels hard to make sense of when it comes to making positive shopping decisions. Almost a quarter of parents believe labels contain too many ingredients, including many they do not recognise. The new Danone Yogurt range uses ingredients that consumers will recognise - just milk, live cultures, and a fruit & veg layer[1] - all with no added sugar or sweeteners[2]. There are options for the whole family, including single pots, family sharing pots, multipacks and kids’ pouches. Flavour combinations include: Strawberry & Blood Orange, Peach & Ginger, Peach & Raspberry, Mango Carrot & Banana, Strawberry and plain Natural yogurt.

Rachel Doyle, Head of Marketing for Danone Dairy Ireland said: “We are very proud of the new Danone Yogurt range and believe it reflects the fact that families are looking for brands that not only offer a solution for the entire family, ultimately making their lives easier, but also reflect their values. For Danone, doing good is about more than just making delicious yogurts with no added sugar†. It’s about doing our bit for families, our communities and our planet. That’s why our new range focuses on Simply What Matters and caters for all the important family moments, which we know help to build sustainable eating habits. It’s also why our pots and cardboard are 100% recyclable.”

Danone has held its belief in simplicity for over 100 years, since it was founded in 1919 when the founder developed yogurt based on his beliefs around its health benefits and wants to continue to have a positive impact long into the future. The new Danone yogurt range continues this tradition, offering simple- recognisable ingredients, in a 100% recyclable pot.  Danone’s work as a force for good was recognised in 2019 as a Certified B Corporation®, making it the first Irish FMCG company to achieve the global accolade. The certification recognises businesses that meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose. The brand is on a mission to make recycling simple – something the whole family can participate in – so is using clear On-Pack Recycling Labels (OPRL) and all pots and cardboard are 100% recyclable[3].

The new Danone range in now in Tesco and SuperValu stores nationwide, with family sharing pots retailing at €2.50* (RRP).  See @danone.yogurt on Instagram or www.danoneyogurt.ie for more information and inspiration.

[1] The plain natural yogurt does not contain fruit layer. The kid’s pouches are blended with fruit purée.
[2] Contains naturally occurring sugars.
[3] Kids pouches are not currently recyclable through curb-side collections. Danone is working to make the pouches widely recyclable, but in the meantime has partnered with Terracycle – a scheme families can participate in to recycle the kids pouches. This is just one part of Danone’s ongoing commitment to discover and implement solutions that drive sustainability
