Mid-term treat! Cork school syndicate claim EuroMillions Plus prize worth €500,000

Posted on: 13 Feb 2023

Staff at one secondary school in Cork are using their mid-term break to do something a bit different – to claim their EuroMillions Plus top prize worth a whopping €500,000!

The ‘Seomra 22’ syndicate is made up of staff from St Colman's Community College in the southeast town of Midleton, Co Cork.

‘Up the Rebels’ was belted as the group of winners claimed their EuroMillions Plus top prize of €500,000 which they won on Tuesday 17th January. The winning quick pick ticket was sold in Tim McCarthy News on Main Street in Midleton, Co. Cork.

The sixty-four strong syndicate has had several weeks to come to terms with the win and process all the local hype and excitement surrounding it.

“The buzz around the town has been phenomenal! I’ve had people coming up stopping me in the street to congratulate me and the locals are genuinely happy for us, which makes the win even more enjoyable. It’s given our town and community a real positive boost and lift, which was really needed”, said Rebecca Walsh, School secretary and syndicate manager.

Ms Walsh explained the meaning behind the syndicate’s unique name: “We chose Seomra 22 as the syndicate name because it means something very special to all of us. It was the room number of one of our colleagues in the school who sadly passed away. It was actually her turn to buy the ticket, which we ended up winning €500,000 on. We feel she’s looking down on us and is here with us for sure. Sharing this money between us has been ten times more special and way more fun than if one of us won it our own”, she added.

A holiday to Bali, a six-month supply of takeaways, tickets to a Beyoncé concert in London and a Bruce Springsteen concert in Paris are just some of the ways syndicate members hope to spend their winnings.
