Over the past three weeks, SuperValu and Centra customers have donated over €500,000 to the Irish Red Cross to support those impacted by the war in Ukraine.
Through the generosity of shoppers in SuperValu and Centra, the Irish Red Cross has been able to repair vital infrastructure, support health facilities, and help families with life-saving food and hygiene items in Ukraine and in neighbouring countries.
100 per cent of the funds donated will go directly to help fund the immediate humanitarian response.
Ian Allen, Managing Director of SuperValu and Centra, said: “The past month has been horrifying for so many as we watched war unfold on our TV screens and phones. Our retailers and colleagues at SuperValu and Centra wanted to do something to help those impacted by the conflict as soon as possible, and together we implemented a huge fundraiser to raise money in stores in every community across Ireland. I would like to thank all our customers, retail partners and colleagues for their generosity in contributing to this campaign. 100 per cent of the funds raised in SuperValu and Centra will go directly to the Irish Red Cross to help those who need it most.”
Commenting for the Irish Red Cross, Charlie Lamson, Head of Fundraising said; “The support of Supervalu and Centra has been incredible. Not only will the significant funding that has been raised directly support our ongoing efforts to provide emergency assistance to those impacted by this unprecedented humanitarian crisis, but the active participation of the individual stores and staff has helped us to substantially increase public awareness for this crucial initiative.”
Through this fundraising initiative, shoppers in SuperValu and Centra could donate €2 to the Irish Red Cross since March 2nd through a “tap to donate” mechanism at the till in store. Customers can still donate to the Irish Red Cross the through https://donate.redcross.ie/
SuperValu and Centra are continuing to work with charities and Government to establish other ways of helping those impacted by the war in Ukraine.
