Posted on: 27 Nov 2025

ALDI Ireland has opened its newest store in Donabate today, creating 30 permanent local jobs. The new €15 million store represents a significant investment by the retailer in Ireland and is part of ALDI’s ongoing commitment to providing high-quality, affordable groceries to the Dublin community.

The store was officially opened by the local ALDI team, including Store Manager Mark Mulvany, alongside ALDI Play Rugby Ambassadors, Current Irish Rugby Coach and Former Ireland Captain Paul O’Connell and Irish Internation Rugby Player, Linda Djougang.

ALDI in Dublin

ALDI’s newest store opening on Turvey Avenue markets the first ALDI location in Donabate, becoming the retailer’s 166th store in Ireland and its 27th in Co. Dublin. ALDI first established a presence in the Irish market in 1999, opening two stores on the same day, including one on Parnell Street, in Dublin City Centre.

Since then, ALDI currently employs over 700 people across the county, underlining its ongoing commitment to delivering great value and exceptional shopping experience. In 2024 alone, ALDI spent over €244 million with local supplier partnerships in Dublin and welcomed 14.5 million customers through its network of 26 stores across the capital.

Mark Mulvany, Store Manager, ALDI Donabate said: “We are delighted to open our doors in Donabate and bring ALDI’s excellent shopping experience to the local community. I have lived just down the road in Swords for the past 25 years, so I’m very familiar with the community and surrounding area. “Our team looks forward to welcoming customers every day and providing great value, fresh produce, and the very best prices on the market.”

Paul O’Connell, ALDI Play Rugby Ambassador, added: “It’s fantastic to see ALDI continuing to invest in communities across the country. Supporting local groups and charities is just as important as providing nutritious and affordable groceries. I’m delighted to be here at the opening of the Donabate store and to continue supporting ALDI’s community-focused initiatives all around Ireland.”

The New Donabate Store

The new 1,320sqm store features ALDI’s award-winning Project Fresh layout, with wide aisles and hi-spec fixtures and fittings. ALDI shoppers will have access to 77 car parking spaces, including 6 electric vehicle

charging spaces and 16 bike spaces.

As part of a nationwide trial, ALDI has begun installing self-service checkouts at selected stores, including the brand-new Donabate location, which will feature 7 self-service terminals. Traditional staffed checkout lines will remain in operation alongside the new self-service tills, reflecting ALDI’s commitment to providing customers with familiar services while continuing to innovate.

The store also includes an in-store bakery, offering freshly baked goods daily to enhance the shopping experience. In addition, 262sm2 solar panels have been installed in the roof of the new store, contributing to ALDI’s nationwide programme to improve energy efficiency and reduce emissions.

Local Support

ALDI’s commitment to Dublin extends beyond economic investment. Through ALDI’s partnership with FoodCloud, ALDI has also donated over 660k meals to local Dublin charities and community groups, reflecting its ongoing commitment to sustainability and community wellbeing.

Additionally, ALDI’s Community Grants Programme provides each ALDI employee with the opportunity to nominate a charity or community organisation in their local community to receive a €500 ALDI Gift Card.  Most recently, 20 Dublin charities and community groups, including Community Connect, and Children’s Health Foundation became the beneficiaries from the programme. The new Donabate store will also take part in ALDI’s Community Grants programme 2026.

Since the launch of the Deposit Return Scheme (DRS) in February 2024, ALDI customers in Dublin have returned over 63 million drink containers, generating more than €10.5 million redeemed via cash or vouchers. Nationally, shoppers have returned over 300 million items, redeeming almost €50 million. Customers at the new store can also choose to donate their deposit directly to Barnardos, ALDI’s long-standing charity partner.
