ALDI Store Manager shares tips on how to maximise your time and savings at ALDI

Posted on: 20 Nov 2025

ALDI Ireland is set to open its latest new store, in Donabate, Co. Dublin, on Thursday, 27th November. As a Dubliner and long-standing member of the community for over 25 years, Store Manager Mark Mulvany brings a wealth of experience, having worked with ALDI for more than 10 years across four stores in the east of the

country.

With Christmas just around the corner, Mark shares some insider tips and details to help new customers make the most of their shopping experience at ALDI ahead of the busiest shopping period of the year.

1. Shop during quieter periods

In the run up to Christmas, our stores can get quite busy at times. In my time at ALDI, I’ve picked up a few tricks to ensure a more personal shopping experience during quieter hours. The quietest (and quickest) time to shop is usually from 8 PM to 10 PM. Shopping later in the day is also a great time to spot some of these marked down fresh fruit, veg and meat products!

2. Plan your shopping

It might sound obvious, but it really helps. Having a shopping list before you go is really valuable, but it’s also really helpful if you can plan your meals in advance. We’ve seen lots of people switching to different cuts of meat for example to facilitate batch cooking meals, which can really help to make budgets go even further – and have some money left over for some Christmas treats!

3. Return your DRS bottles and cans before you shop

Returning these while doing your big shop not only cuts down on multiple trips, but the vouchers received can then be immediately put against your shopping bill or added to your savings card. Lots of ALDI customers have been adding to their deposits to Christmas Savings Cards to have some money put aside to indulge over Christmas.

4. Pick up an ALDI Too Good To Go ‘Surprise Bag’

ALDI’s Too Good To Go €3.99 surprise bags are always a huge hit and contain food worth at least €12. We’ve sold more than 320,000 of these bags since February 2023.

5. Look for food close to its best before date

We also mark-down prices on food approaching its best before date by up to 75%. Not only can you pick up some fantastic bargains, but you can also help us to reduce food waste.

6. Check out our leaflet each week in store or online

ALDI’s Specialbuys are released every Thursday and Sunday and are exclusively available in our stores. We let customers know in advance which specials are coming over the week ahead, so you can plan in advance. Of course, some customers continue to love being surprised by what’s on offer in our middle aisle!
