Centra, Ireland’s leading convenience retailer, has announced their new partnership with Hurling for Cancer Research, to raise vital funds for the Irish Cancer Society. This year’s instalment of the hugely popular annual Hurling exhibition game is set to take place Monday 18th August, in Netwatch Cullen Park, Carlow at 7.30pm. All proceeds raised from the event will support the Irish Cancer Society and the life-saving research they do.
Launched in 2012, by Jim Bolger and Davy Russell, Hurling for Cancer Research is an annual fundraiser gathering an array of incredible sportspeople, past and present, and celebrities to raise money for the Irish Cancer Society’s cancer research work. The Irish Cancer Society is the largest charity investor in cancer research in Ireland, investing around €4 million each year across a wide range of cancer research projects. Since its inception, Hurling for Cancer Research has raised almost €1.7 million, making an incredible contribution to the Irish Cancer Society’s overall cancer research investment.
Centra are pleased to get behind this cause by supporting Hurling for Cancer Research who help fund over 100 cancer researchers across Ireland each year, helping drive forward progress to bring us closer to a day where nobody dies from cancer.
Centra will support this year’s event financially as well as through various pre-event and in-store activations in local Centra stores across Ireland.
Des O’Mahony, Interim Marketing Director, Centra said: “We’re proud to support the Hurling for Cancer Research initiative This powerful collaboration deepens our long-standing connection to communities through hurling, while reinforcing our commitment to vital, life-changing cancer research. Hurling for Cancer Research represents the best of both worlds: passion on the pitch and hope in homes across Ireland.”
Hurling for Cancer Research founder, Jim Bolger said: “Davy and I are thrilled that Centra have decided to come on board to help with our fundraiser for cancer research. We look forward to welcoming everyone to Netwatch Cullen Park in August for another great event.”
Averil Power, CEO of the Irish Cancer Society, said: “We are delighted that Hurling for Cancer Research is back this year in aid of the Irish Cancer Society. Each year we are overwhelmed by the amazing support of the organisers of this special event and the army of volunteers they mobilise. For a decade and a half, their incredible efforts have raised almost €1.7 million so that we in the Irish Cancer Society can continue to invest in groundbreaking cancer research. It is through sustained investment in cancer research that we will turn today’s terminal cancers into tomorrow’s treatable and curable ones. We are delighted to see Centra, supporting Hurling for Cancer Research this year.”
Tickets are €10 for Adults and €5 for Children and are available for sale in select Centra and SuperValu GAA Ticket Agent stores and via www.hurlingforcancer.ie.
