Dublin LGFA Star Carla Rowe to Open New Lidl Store in Ballybough

Posted on: 08 Apr 2026

Lidl Ireland is delighted to announce that the newest store in Ballybough, Dublin will open the doors on Thursday the 9th of April.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new state-of-the-art store will be attended by football captain and star forward Carla Rowe to officially open the doors to the highly anticipated brand-new Lidl store.

The new state-of-the-art development at the site of the former Annesley Motors showroom represents a major investment in the North Inner City. To celebrate the opening, Lidl will be offering a special treat for early bird shoppers: the first ten customers through the doors will receive a €20 Lidl gift voucher to spend in-store.

The expanded new Ballybough store will create 30 new permanent jobs, and features Lidl’s established ‘concept’ design which features a spacious 1114 sqm sales floor area, offering a premier shopping experience for customers with self-service checkouts, long tills, DRS machines and the popular in-store bakery offering fresh baked goods daily.

Sustainability is a key focus for the Ballybough store as the retail unit incorporates an ISO 50001-certified energy management system. This includes high-performing energy-efficient technologies, the installation of solar panels (PV panels), a green roof, LED lighting with Dali control, and heat recovery systems. Within the 47-space car park, the provision of a number of bike spaces and electric vehicle (EV) charging points further supports sustainable transport options for customers and store teams. This commitment to the local area is set to expand in the coming months with the fit-out of an additional adjoining unit. Intended for use as a community cafe, pharmacy, or similar essential service, this extension aims to foster social cohesion and provide vital local amenities, transforming the site into a multifunctional community anchor.

Speaking ahead of the ribbon-cutting, Carla Rowe said:

"I am thrilled to be officially opening the new Lidl store in Ballybough on April 9th. As a Dublin player, it’s fantastic to see this kind of investment in the heart of the city. Lidl has been a massive supporter of the LGFA for a decade, and that same community spirit is evident in their support for local charities like ALONE. I’m really looking forward to meeting the local residents and welcoming everyone into the new store!"

Brian Smyth, Regional Property Director at Lidl Ireland, said:

“We are incredibly proud to finally unveil our new Ballybough store and bring Lidl’s ‘More to Value’ proposition to the heart of the North Inner City. This project has been a significant undertaking, transforming a well-known local site into a modern, sustainable retail space that will serve the community for years to come.

Opening on April 9th, this store represents a substantial investment in the Dublin 3 area, creating new local employment and providing a premier shopping experience with industry-leading sustainability features.”

Lidl opened its first Dublin store in Tallaght in 2000 and currently employs more than 2,000 people locally across its network of over 50 stores in the Dublin area. This new Ballybough store represents a continued commitment to providing high-quality, affordable produce to the heart of the capital's North Inner City.

Lidl’s investment in Dublin contributes significantly to the local economy.
