Lidl Ireland Officially Opens New Killorglin store in Kerry

Posted on: 13 Nov 2025

Lidl Ireland has officially opened the doors to its brand new store in Killorglin, Co. Kerry this morning, expanding the retailer’s store network to eight in the county and bringing the retailer’s ‘More to Value’ proposition to the Killorglin community.

Located on Laharn Road, Lidl Killorglin marks a major milestone in the retailer’s ambitious expansion programme and has created 30 permanent retail  jobs for the community in what has been a highly anticipated store opening.

Kerry ladies Gaelic football star and Lidl ambassador Siofra O’Shea had the honour of cutting the ribbon and greeting customers this morning alongside Tara O’Connor, Regional Managing Director for Lidl Ireland.

As part of its commitment to the local community and to mark the opening day celebrations representatives from St Vincent De Paul and Family Carers Ireland received a donation of €500 each in Lidl vouchers from the Killorglin store team.

The new Killorglin store reflects Lidl’s established ‘concept’ design and features a spacious 1,398 sqm sales floor area, offering a premier shopping experience for customers with self-service checkouts, long tills, and the popular in-store bakery offering fresh baked goods daily.

Sustainability is a key focus for the Killorglin store as the retail unit incorporates an ISO 50001-certified energy management system. This includes high performing energy efficient technologies, the installation of solar panels (PV panels), LED lighting with Dali control, and heat recovery systems. Within the 119-space car park, the provision of a number of bike spaces and electric vehicle (EV) charging points further supports sustainable transport options for customers and store teams.

On the morning of the store opening Tara O’Connor, Regional Managing Director for Lidl Ireland said:

“On behalf of Lidl Ireland, I am delighted to officially open our new Killorglin store. It has long been our ambition to bring our market-leading value to Killorglin, and we are thrilled to finally welcome the local community to the store today.

We have been a part of the Kerry community since the very beginning of our Lidl journey here in Ireland, and we are grateful for the tremendous, ongoing support the local community has offered us along the way.

Built to prioritize customer experience and sustainability, our innovative new Killorglin store incorporates an energy-efficient design, unique features, and convenient customer amenities. This store has been highly anticipated in the area, and we are delighted to finally open its doors to customers."

Lidl Ambassador and Kerry LGFA Player, Síofra O Shea, added:

“I am delighted to be part of the celebrations this morning and to officially open Lidl's new store in Killorglin. It was great fun to be part of the official ribbon cutting and meeting all the customers. Lidl has been a fantastic partner to the LGFA for years, and it's great to see them investing even more in our community. This new store is a huge boost for the area!”

Lidl opened its first store in Kerry in Killarney in 2000 and currently employs more than 130 people locally across its existing stores in Listowel, Dingle, Killarney, Kenmare, Castleisland, and two stores in Tralee.

Lidl’s investment in Killorglin contributes significantly to the local economy. Earlier this year, Lidl Ireland confirmed that a total of €3 million worth of goods and services was procured from 18 suppliers and business partners across Kerry in 2024. Key Kerry suppliers include Listowel’s Prestige Foods, who have been supplying chilled and frozen desserts since 2013. Last year, Lidl also entered into a €2 million supply deal with Kerry Dairy Ireland for its own brand infant formula range.

Lidl Ireland was named a ‘Top Employer’ by the Top Employers Institute earlier this year for the fifth year running. The retailer was also named Most Reputable Retailer and Most Value for Money Organisation in the 2025 RepTrak Ireland study, and was named Most Sustainable Retailer in Ireland, ranking #3 in the RepTrak® Sustainability Index for 2024.

Lidl Ireland currently employs more than 6,000 employees in its 189 stores, Head Office in Tallaght and three distribution centres and regional offices.
