Lidl Ireland retains title of Most Sustainable Supermarket in the Ireland RepTrak® Sustainability Index 2025 study of 100 organisations

Posted on: 20 Nov 2025

Lidl Ireland has been named the Most Sustainable Supermarket and 6th Most Sustainable Organisation overall in the Ireland RepTrak® Sustainability Index 2025 study of 100 prominent organisations.

The ranking, published today, sees the retailer retain its position as #1 retailer for a second year and underscores Lidl’s commitment to tangible action to fight climate change, protect the environment and build a better social and economic future for the next generation.

The Index, now in its fourteenth year, tracks the perceptions of more than 5,000 members of the informed public on the sustainability measures undertaken by 100 prominent organisations in Ireland across four factors - Environmental Impact, Social Performance, Workplace and Conduct - which reflect the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) under the EU's Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD).

Speaking about Lidl’s placing in the Ireland RepTrak® Sustainability Index 2025 study, Robert Ryan, Chief Executive Officer, Lidl Ireland and Northern Ireland, commented:

“As Ireland’s leading supermarket discount retailer, we know we have a responsibility to lead the charge for sustainability and deliver on national climate commitments whilst enhancing local communities to futureproof our planet for the next generation.

Over the last twelve months, we’ve continued to deliver on our Sustainability Strategy, taking tangible action against climate change. From delivering a landmark project for Irish retail with the opening of Ireland’s first Net Zero Energy supermarket in Maynooth earlier this month to launching the inaugural Lidl Green Fund which rewards schools, charities and community groups with funding for local sustainability projects, no measure is too big or too small.

Today’s results show that our efforts are resonating with the public who increasingly value organisations that create real change to improve lives and safeguard our planet. At Lidl Ireland, we continue to deliver on our mission to provide the highest quality food at market-leading prices with sustainability embedded throughout, bringing our customers more to value.”

In April, Lidl was named the #1 Value for Money Organisation and the Most Reputable Supermarket in Ireland in the Ireland Reputation Index 2025 study of 100 organisations, powered by RepTrak®. The retailer was also named the 5th Most Reputable Organisation overall in the study highlighting how Lidl’s proposition is continuing to resonate strongly with Irish shoppers.

Lidl Ireland employs more than 6,000 people across 190 stores, three regional distribution centres and Head Office in the Republic of Ireland and currently holds 14.1% market share according to Kantar.
