Lidl Ireland takes a bigger bite out of Galway’s Galmere Fresh Foods with expanded €7 million contract and new own-brand products

Posted on: 02 Oct 2025

Lidl Ireland today announced a new supply deal with Galway-based Galmere Fresh Foods worth €7 million, more than doubling its contract value over the last decade and increasing its range of fresh products which has expanded to 16 lines of soups, sauces, meal bowls, salads and dips across Lidl’s own-brand Meadow Fresh and Deluxe lines.

Supplying Lidl Ireland and Lidl Northern Ireland since 2014, the successful partnership with Galmere Fresh Foods has developed some of Lidl’s bestselling and most loved products, such as Lidl’s Deluxe Seafood Chowder, available in Lidl’s 231 stores across the island of Ireland, with many products also exported to the UK and Europe for promotional listings.

Based in Ballybrit in County Galway, the business has been producing fine Irish food since 1989 and for more than 30 years has been working with local growers to produce inspired recipes. Founded originally in the kitchen of a well-known local restaurant, Galmere is now based in a 33,000 square foot certified organic, BRC AA+ accredited facility in the west of Ireland.

With a focus on fresh and quality produce, Galmere Fresh Food’s product lines have expanded recently to add a new range of convenient, high nutrition meal options including Lidl’s Deluxe Immune Boosting Curried Butternut Squash Soup which won gold at the Irish Food Quality and Drink Awards 2025, as well as Lidl’s High Protein Mexican Bean and High Protein Chicken Soup and Lidl’s Deluxe Immune Boosting Root Vegetable Soup which all took home silver awards.

Luke Judge, Senior Buyer at Lidl Ireland and Northern Ireland said:

“Galmere Fresh Foods has been a long-term valued partner to Lidl over the past decade and we’re delighted to play our part in their continued growth and success. As a retailer committed to supporting the local agri-food sector, we are always looking to see how we can grow our business with local Irish suppliers where possible.

I’m very proud to confirm this expanded new deal with Galmere Fresh Foods and to continue to work on bringing their Galway-grown recipes and products to customers across the country. With healthy options that make nutritious lunchbox fillers this back-to-school season, we know that Galmere Fresh Foods will be a continued favourite amongst our customers.”

Commenting on the new contract, Andrew Keegan, Business Development Manager at Galmere Fresh Foods said:

“Since our partnership with Lidl Ireland began in 2014, we’ve substantially grown our offering and brand. It’s been a joy to see so many of the products we developed for Lidl Ireland go on to win multiple awards. Working with Lidl Ireland has been incredible for building our company and reaching new audiences and we’re delighted that our products have been so popular with Lidl shoppers.

Galmere Fresh Foods has been developing widely loved recipes for more than 30 years. We’ve been proud to work with Irish suppliers to ensure we can create international and modern recipes using the finest Irish ingredients.”

Lidl Ireland continues to give Irish producers unrivalled access to local and international markets supporting the growth and success of Irish produce worldwide. Lidl’s latest Supplier and Business Partner Impact Report shows that the retailer procured more than €1.67 billion worth of goods and services from its growing supplier network in 2024.

Of the €1.2 billion procured from Irish agri-food producers, €885 million worth of goods stayed within Lidl Ireland’s operations to be sold through its local store network while more than €360 million was exported internationally through Lidl’s expansive network of stores, creating valuable export opportunities for its valued Irish suppliers.
