Since its founding in 2005, Zambrero stores worldwide have donated more than 97 million meals to communities facing hunger via their charity partner Rise Against Hunger; that number continues to rise daily. The global Mexican-inspired restaurant brand is now on track to reach its ambitious goal of 100 million meals donated by the end of 2025.
With over 300 stores across Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, the United Kingdom, and the United States, Zambrero continues its mission to help tackle world hunger through its Plate4Plate initiative, donating a meal for every burrito, bowl, or Zam Box purchased in-store.
Zambrero was founded in Canberra, Australia, by Dr. Sam Prince, who was a medical student at the time. Sam went on to become a leading entrepreneur and philanthropist through his business ventures, including Zambrero. The Zambrero brand combines ‘feel-good food with a feel-good mission’, leveraging every meal served to make a tangible global impact.
Zambrero’s charity partner, Rise Against Hunger, operates worldwide to combat food insecurity through volunteer-packed meals, school feeding programs, and sustainable agriculture projects that empower communities to become self-reliant. Beyond meal donations, the organisation also supports local produce sourcing to boost access to nutritious food while strengthening farmers and local markets. Its programs help children stay in school and fund Artisan Woman Grants, which equip women with new skills, trades, and the means to build sustainable livelihoods.
Rick Kearney, CEO of Rise Against Hunger, said: "We are incredibly grateful for our partnership with Zambrero. They are changing lives and changing communities through the hope that is rolled into every burrito."
Darragh Fanning, Zambrero Ireland, said: "The Plate4Plate program was one of the main reasons I brought the Zambrero brand to Ireland in 2016—it’s a way to make a positive impact every day. Beyond meal donations, Plate4Plate supports sourcing local produce, boosting access to fresh food, and strengthening local farmers and markets. By providing communities with tools, education, and resources, we help build sustainable solutions for the future."
By October 2025, Zambrero Ireland will have contributed nearly five million meals since opening in 2016. This year alone, its 31 Irish locations will help donate an estimated one million meals.
