Sustainability Focus
Sustainability has been placed at the heart of the store’s design. The new layout incorporates a range of innovative, energy-efficient technologies. High-speed electric vehicle charging points are available in the car park, supporting the transition to cleaner transport. Inside the store, energy efficiency and circular design have been key considerations at every stage of development.
- Sustainable materials: The flooring throughout the main retail area is composed of 75% organically sourced or recycled materials and minerals.
- Energy efficiency: Advanced refrigeration units have been fitted with energy-saving doors that cut electricity consumption by up to 75%, using naturally occurring gases.
- LED innovation: The lighting system features next-generation LED fittings, made from recycled aluminium. These lights consume 15% less electricity than previous models while delivering brighter illumination.
- Renewable heating: A heat pump and heat-recovery system have also been installed to provide efficient space and water heating.
- Deposit Return Scheme: The store will make it easier for the local community to recycle bottles and cans through their Deposit Return Scheme, with capacity to process up to 2.4 million containers annually.
Together, these initiatives reflect SuperValu’s ongoing commitment to sustainable retailing, creating a more responsible shopping experience for their customers.
