Tesco has officially relaunched its newly transformed store in Dooradoyle today, bringing a fresh, modern shopping experience to customers in Limerick. Following a €5 million investment, the store has expanded into a neighbouring unit at the Crescent Shopping Centre, offering customers more choice, more space, and a whole new look.
Spanning 1,600 square feet, the upgraded store features new shelving, energy-efficient lighting, modern refrigeration, and enhanced colleague facilities. Shoppers can now enjoy a spacious fresh food area, an expanded homeware section, a dedicated off-licence and bakery, as well as the latest F&F clothing range and a Tesco Mobile shop, all under one roof.
During the unveiling, Tesco showcased some of Ireland’s favourite suppliers with customers tasting St Tola’s goats' cheese from Clare, Blanco Niño tortilla chips and Stapleton’s Bread from Tipperary, and Old Irish Creamery cheese from Limerick.
Store manager Michael Fitzgerald, who leads a team of 95 local colleagues, says the store transformation has been well received by customers in the area:
“Customers have been remarking about the real difference they can see and feel when they shop in Tesco Dooradoyle now. Every part of the store has been upgraded to make shopping easier and more enjoyable. We’re especially proud to support so many fantastic local producers. My team has been amazing as we’ve kept the store open to serve customers while we’ve refitted it too; I’m incredibly proud of them.”
Retail operations director Paul Healy added: “This renovation is about more than just a new look; it’s about investing in the Limerick community. We’re thrilled to be part of such a vibrant area and look forward to serving Dooradoyle for many years to come.”
Tesco’s commitment to community continues through its Community Fund, which has supported thousands of local causes across Ireland, from GAA clubs to children’s charities. The newly reopened Dooradoyle store will kick off its first campaign by supporting three local organisations: Crecora National School, Limerick Community Special School and Knockainey LGFA.
Each store is twinned with a local DEIS primary school, providing free healthy fresh foods weekly to support families in need. In Co Limerick, 13 DEIS primary schools are part of the Stronger Starts Food programme, with 10 of these schools in Limerick city, each receiving 20 food packs per week. Le Cheile National School located five kilometres from Dooradoyle is participating in the programme.
