Limerick gets new Tesco store

Posted on: 18 Apr 2024

Tesco Ireland has opened its 174th store at Kileely Road, Limerick, creating 33 jobs. The new superstore will be managed by Michael Fitzgerald, who has worked in the business for 16 years.

Measuring over 10,000 square feet, the superstore promises a quality shopping experience for customers who can enjoy features such as an in-store bakery, Smokin’ Bean coffee station, DRS machine and free customer car parking.

Geoff Byrne, Chief Operating Officer, Tesco Ireland said: “We’re very excited to open the doors of our new Limerick store.  We are committed to ensuring that Kileely Road and all our stores play an important role in local communities. We are continuing to invest in new stores around the country, and we look forward to embedding ourselves into the community for many years to come.”

At the opening, Michael Fitzgerald, Store Manager, Kileely Road said: “This is a very exciting day for the team and me. We’ve been working very hard behind the scenes for the past few weeks to ensure that the store will offer the best possible experience, and welcome, for our customers. We really look forward to actively engaging with the community, and we’re especially proud to meet our new friends in St Marys National School, who are participating in our Stronger Starts Schools programme. We’re also looking forward to meeting local groups and projects who need our support through the Community Fund over the coming months.”

Tesco is a proud supporter of the communities it serves. To date, its Community Fund has helped support thousands of organisations across the country from GAA clubs to children’s charities. In its first campaign, the Kileely Road store will support the locality with donations to three local groups: Corpus Christi School, St Mary’s National School, and the youth team of Moyross United Football Club.

Through the food surplus redistribution programme, FoodCloud partners and OLIO Food Waste Heroes will be on hand to ensure no good food goes to waste. The Kileely Road team will also join Tesco’s continued efforts to support its charity partner, Children’s Health Foundation which supports all sick children in CHI at Crumlin, Connolly, Temple St, and Tallaght hospitals.
