Applegreen is to create 150 new jobs in Naas, Co Kildare with the opening of a €15 million new EV Hub and roadside service area later this year.
The new Applegreen service area, which will be located close to the Naas Ball at Junction 9 on the M7, is part of a multi-million euro investment that Applegreen is making in its Irish business this year.
The new M7 Naas Ball site will be a state-of-the-art facility that will initially include Popeyes and Taco Bell outlets, M&S Food, Crafted Kitchen & Deli, and an Applegreen forecourt and convenience store. The Popeyes outlet in Naas will be the first Popeyes Drive-Thru in the Republic of Ireland. An additional Drive-Thru outlet will also open at the new Naas site this winter.
The site will also have eight Applegreen Fast Charge ultra-fast EV chargers with a total of 16 charging points, a separate truck stop for HGV fuelling, and an Applegreen carwash.
“Our new service area at the Naas Ball, Junction 9 on the M7 reflects our ambition to raise the bar for roadside hospitality in Ireland,” said Seamus Stapleton, Managing Director of Applegreen’s Republic of Ireland business. “We will be providing a high-quality customer experience with bright, modern, welcoming facilities for customers offering top-class brands that our customers love,” Mr Stapleton added.
“We are continuing to invest heavily in the Irish market, as we see significant long-term growth prospects for the Applegreen business. We have several additional new sites in the pipeline, and we are also continuing to upgrade existing locations. The recruitment process for the 150 new jobs that we are creating in Naas is already underway, and we’re looking forward to welcoming additional colleagues into the Applegreen team.”
Applegreen, which is one of Ireland’s best known retail brands, is currently investing €1 billion to grow its operations in Ireland, the UK and the United States. It is adding new locations in all of its markets through developing and acquiring new sites and it is also continuing to upgrade and improve its existing network.
Naas will be Applegreen’s second major new services area in Ireland in the past 12 months, as it opened a €15 million site at Junction 6 on the M3 in Dunshaughlin last September.
Applegreen has also introduced Taco Bell and Popeyes to its Irish operations in recent months and continues to expand its partnership with M&S Food, which is now available at 43 Applegreen locations. Applegreen is also investing in Ireland to further expand its Braeburn coffee range, and to increase the roll out its new Crafted Kitchen & Deli brand.
Applegreen opened its first service station in Ballyfermot in Dublin in 1992 and now has almost 200 locations in the Irish market. Applegreen typically invests more than €30 million every year in the Irish market on new store openings, upgrades, and improvements.
Applegreen also has an extensive international business, with operations in Britain and the United States, and a total of more than 435 locations and more than 700 branded food offers across its global network.
Applegreen is a specialist in managing high quality roadside hospitality facilities and its outlets serve more than 180 million customers annually. The Group had a turnover of €3.8 billion in 2024 and employs almost 18,000 people during its peak summer period.
In the UK, Applegreen’s Welcome Break business operates a total of 60 sites, including 36 motorway service areas, and 31 hotels. In the US, Applegreen has 181 sites, and more than 300 branded food outlets.
Applegreen is also undertaking a major €85 million investment to further expand its EV charging networks in the three markets in which it operates.
