Tesco Ireland has partnered with Dublin based supplier Freshways in a €45 million three-year deal that will see the Finglas-based company supply sandwiches, wraps, salads and pasta dishes for Tesco’s hugely popular Meal Deal across the retailer’s Irish stores and online.
The partnership is also supporting continued investment in Irish food manufacturing. Freshways recently completed an €8 million investment in its Finglas production facility, increasing production capacity through the addition of new high-care manufacturing areas, enhanced storage facilities, upgraded refrigeration infrastructure and systems. 20 new jobs have been created at Freshways resulting from the new deal.
Every week, Tesco Ireland customers buy 70,000 Meal Deals, making it one of the retailer’s most loved convenience offers. Freshways plays a key role in its success, supplying more than 40 product lines including a range of Crust & Co sandwiches, wraps, salad and pasta dishes. Among customer favourites are the Chicken & Bacon Caesar Wrap and Chicken & Signature Stuffing Sandwich, enjoyed by thousands of customers each week.
This new three-year deal, worth €15 million annually, further strengthens a successful partnership that has grown over 20 years, with Freshways helping to shape and develop Tesco’s fresh convenience range through innovation, quality and product development. The company works closely with Tesco to respond to changing consumer tastes and drive growth in the convenience food category.
John Brennan, Fresh Category Director at Tesco Ireland, said: "We are delighted to extend our partnership with Freshways for a further three years. Freshways has been a trusted and valued supplier to Tesco Ireland for many years, consistently delivering high-quality products that our customers love. Their commitment to innovation, quality, and service has helped us build the strongest Meal Deal offerings in the market. We look forward to continuing to work together to bring great value, choice and convenience to customers across Ireland."
Seán Cleary, Managing Director of Freshways, added: "This deal with Tesco provides a strong platform for future growth and reflects the hard work and dedication of our team. We have invested significantly in our Finglas facility to support increased capacity and innovation, and we look forward to continuing to develop exciting new products for Tesco customers while delivering the highest standards of quality and freshness.”
This agreement highlights Tesco Ireland’s commitment to supporting Irish suppliers and investing in long-term partnerships that deliver quality, value and choice for customers. It also reinforces Freshways’ position as a leading Irish food producer and a key partner behind one of Tesco’s most popular customer offers.
