LEAD Network Ireland Chapter has officially announced the winners of its People of the Year Awards 2026. The non-profit, volunteer-run organisation dedicated to attracting, retaining, and advancing women across the retail and consumer goods industry, hosted the awards to celebrate leaders across Ireland who actively champion workplace gender equality and inclusion.
Originally established in 2011, LEAD Network has grown to more than 22,000 members across 10 country chapters, partnering with over 200 manufacturers and 100 retailers to drive gender balance at every level. The Ireland Chapter committee brings together representatives from major industry brands, including Kellanova, Lidl, Musgrave, Coca-Cola, PepsiCo, Kraft Heinz, Irish Distillers, and FMI.
The 2026 awards recognised outstanding individuals across two categories:
Inspirational Leader of the Year: Ruth Hughes, Kellanova
The Inspirational Leader of the Year Award recognises an exceptional leader who inspires through strategic vision, empathy, and resilience - creating an environment where teams feel valued, supported, and empowered to succeed.
This year’s winner, Ruth Hughes of Kellanova, was celebrated as the ultimate inclusive leader who consistently puts the well-being of others first. Recognised by colleagues as a trusted problem-solver and role model, Hughes has demonstrated exemplary leadership by facilitating life-changing sabbaticals, acting as a formal mentor across multiple countries and functions, and stepping up personally to support team members through severe hardship.
Ally of the Year: Owen Clifford, Bank of Ireland
The Ally of the Year Award recognises an individual who consistently leads by example to elevate women in business, ensuring their contributions are valued, recognised, and included.
Owen Clifford of Bank of Ireland was named Ally of the Year for his proactive and sustained commitment to female leadership. Clifford actively supports female leaders within his organisation and the broader sector, frequently speaking on the importance of gender balance and setting a strong industry standard for practical allyship.
Laura Canavan, LEAD Network Ireland Chapter Co-Chair and Head of Culture & Engagement at Lidl Ireland, commented:
"The LEAD Network People of the Year Awards shine a light on the individuals making a lasting difference through their actions, influence and commitment to developing others. Whether through mentoring emerging talent, championing inclusive workplaces, or demonstrating exceptional leadership, these awards celebrate the diverse ways people contribute to a more equitable industry. Huge congratulations to our winners, Ruth and Owen, whose daily efforts help shape stronger teams, better businesses, and a more inclusive future for all."
