Lidl propose to build 60 apartments alongside new store in Dublin

Posted on: 11 Mar 2022

Lidl Ireland hosted two community information evenings to brief local residents, community leaders and stakeholders on its plans for a mixed use development and new Lidl store on Herberton Road, Dublin 12. An online meeting took place via Zoom on March 3rd and in person event took place in Pearse College on March 10th.

Lidl representatives and members of the design team took the time to talk to the local community and answer a range of questions on topics such as traffic impact, parking and the sustainability credentials of the project.

The new development is set to include a spacious sales floor, 60 new apartments, as well as other retail spaces for use as potential café and pharmacy. Built to the highest environmental standards, the proposed store will also have EV charging points, a green roof and solar panels. The development will bring up to €15 million in local investment to the community, as well as creating 60 jobs at Lidl, which the retailer hopes will be welcomed by the community.

Vincent Cronolly, Regional Property Director says; We are pleased to bring forward and lodge planning for this ambitious project on Herberton Road. We had a lot of constructive engagement with the local community and are very thankful to them for taking the time to engage with us. We do believe that the mixed use aspect of this scheme, with 60 apartments included, makes very good use of the site available. We hope to bring significant local investment, new jobs and our market leading quality and value to the community around Herberton Road for many years to come.”

To date, Lidl have contributed significantly to the communities in which they operate through its initiatives such as Jigsaw and Foodcloud, raising more than €1,000,000 through colleague fundraising and community support, and donating over 2 million meals to local food banks. The retailer is also partnered with the Ladies Gaelic Football Association and would be delighted to support the local teams, including Good Counsel Liffey Gaels. Lidl Ireland is determined to support the local communities surrounding its stores and will strive to give back to the community of Herberton Road with the development of the new store.

This development is in line with Lidl’s €550 million expansion plan to take place over the next three years to 2025 and the retailer hopes the residential units will form part of the housing solution

Lidl Ireland employs over 5,000 employees in its 173 stores, Head Office in Tallaght and three distribution centres and regional offices based in Charleville, Mullingar and Newbridge.
