New research from leading supermarket retailer, Lidl Ireland, has shown a trend for ditching big brands for better value, quality alternatives as the nation embraces exercise and movement like never before.
With research from Sport Ireland showing that more adults in Ireland (2.12 million people) participated in regular sport and exercise in 2025 than in previous years, new Lidl Plus research has revealed that shoppers are turning to more affordable and accessible exercise gear and equipment to find their move.
Findings conducted via a Lidl Plus survey in May 2026 found that 85% of shoppers would consider using at-home fitness products rather than going to the gym or a fitness class. Price was the main consideration for a third of respondents (33%), followed by style and design of the product was the next most important factor (18%) alongside quality and durability (15%).
